tarBUS
From 2021 to 2024, tarBUS served thousands of passengers in Tarnów, becoming the most popular local transport app on the App Store and Android. As a co-creator, I was responsible for the iOS app, developed in partnership with Michalus transport. With over 5000 downloads, it became a regional success. This project taught me valuable lessons in mobile development, teamwork, and app deployment. One of my favorite features was customizable widgets displaying live bus departures from selected stops.
Highly Rated Local Success
tarBUS quickly became the go-to app for commuters, with over 5000 downloads. It replaced the need for printed bus schedules, providing users with an easy way to check real-time bus timetables and routes from their phones. With its smooth interface and reliable information, it was the best-rated transport app in the region on both the App Store and Google Play.
iOS Development and Widgets
I was fully responsible for the iOS side of development, using technologies such as SwiftUI, MapKit, WidgetKit and SQL. One of the most innovative aspects of the project was the integration of widgets—likely making tarBUS the first public transport app in Poland to support iOS widgets, which allowed users to access live departure information directly from their home screens.
Real-Time Bus Schedules
The core feature of tarBUS was the real-time bus schedule functionality. Users could view up-to-date bus times, routes, and schedules for the Michalus transport company. This significantly improved the commuting experience, making public transportation more accessible and predictable for thousands of daily users.
Collaboration and Development
Working closely with the Michalus transport company, we ensured that the app remained up-to-date with the latest schedules and real-time information. This project was a significant learning experience, helping me grow in project management, mobile development, and client collaboration. The entire app was built from scratch, receiving constant updates and improvements based on user feedback. In early 2024, tarBUS concluded when Michalus ceased operations in Tarnów. Despite the project's end, the skills and insights gained from the development process have been invaluable for my career as a developer.
